Rural Empowerment And Development

The Rural Empowerment And Development (READ) programme is the first project between the Singapore Youth Ambassadors and the Mechai Pattana Bamboo School (MPBS) in Northeast Thailand. READ aims to share and spread Mechai Pattana Bamboo School’s spirit of community service to others so that we can learn from them and empower youths in the rural communities in ASEAN to be honest, resilient, and innovative social entrepreneurs.

From wheelchair agriculture to having dinner at Cabbages & Condoms in Bangkok, READ exposes students to experiences that are atypical of a camp! School life in MPBS is very different to that of a normal school; here, students learn agricultural and social enterprise skills which are practical for their needs. Using these skills, they have an opportunity to make life in the rural communities better for everyone.
